Welcome to Room 1. St Benedicts School Entry Class.

Mrs Treder, the class teacher and assistant principal of St Benedicts School, will arrange for you and your child to visit the class for two mornings prior to the first day of school.  Students are welcomed by their new peers, they are introduced to some school routines, stay for morning tea and visit our school library. Each visitor is given a special buddy to help look after them, a role the class enjoy and carry out well.  Parents stay until after prayers and return for pick-up at 12.00.

In Room 1 the students commence learning to read and write. One useful tool for this is a phonic based programme called ‘Letterland’ which the students really enjoy and become familiar with through many resources.  The students learn about letter names and sounds which assist in the early stages of reading and writing.

The students explore mathematics through many different hands-on experiences.

We are currently practising with Room 2 for the school production which is on in September. We have created a dance routine to music. It will be exciting being on stage at the theatre.

We have a special friend called ‘Ted’.  He loves being in Room 1. Students read to him, make him books, teach him to count and even take him home for a weekend sleep-over!  He has such an exciting life which is recorded in a diary.  Wait ‘til you meet him!
